Heat Pump Training Grant

Switching to renewable heating is one of the UK’s biggest energy priorities, and heat pumps are leading the way. To meet national targets, the Government has launched the Heat Pump Training Grant, a funding scheme designed to help heating engineers access specialist training at reduced cost. For homeowners in Hampshire and West Sussex, this means a growing number of trained installers available to deliver reliable, future-proof central heating solutions.

What is the Heat Pump Training Grant?

The Heat Pump Training Grant is part of the UK Government’s commitment to increasing the number of skilled heat pump installers. Through the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, eligible engineers can apply for funding worth up to £500 to cover the cost of one approved course.

Registered training providers, such as the Grant UK Training Academy in Swindon, are authorised to deliver this training. One example is the OFTEC OFT21-504A course, which focuses on the installation, commissioning, and servicing of air source heat pumps. With funding applied, eligible installers can complete this qualification free of charge.

Who is Eligible for the Training Grant?

The grant is not available to everyone, but many working in the heating and plumbing industry may qualify. Eligibility includes:

  • Holding a nationally recognised qualification in heating or plumbing, or two years’ proven on-the-job experience
  • Holding WRAS and HWSS (unvented) qualifications (not covered by the funding)
  • Working in England, either as a sole trader, unemployed individual, or within a business of fewer than 250 employees
  • Being certified under a competent persons scheme such as Gas Safe, OFTEC, NICEIC, or NAPIT
  • Not having received more than £315,000 in government subsidies in the past three years
  • Not having previously used the Heat Training Grant for another heat pump course

For heating engineers in Hampshire and West Sussex, this provides an opportunity to expand their skills and meet growing customer demand for renewable heating.

Benefits for Homeowners

For those considering heat pump installation in Hampshire, the training grant means more qualified engineers are now available to deliver safe and efficient systems. Whether it’s air source heat pumps in Portsmouth, installations in Southampton, or upgrading central heating in West Sussex, customers can feel confident knowing their installer has received accredited, government-backed training.

Proper training is essential, as heat pumps need to be carefully designed, sized, and installed to perform at their best. With more engineers completing this scheme, households can expect a higher standard of workmanship and better long-term results from their investment.

Benefits for Engineers and Installers

For heating engineers in Hampshire and West Sussex, the grant is an opportunity to grow their services and stay ahead in a changing industry. By completing funded courses, installers can:

  • Gain qualifications in air source heat pump installation and servicing
  • Deliver professional central heating services in Hampshire with renewable technologies
  • Meet the rising demand for underfloor heating and heat pumps across Portsmouth and Southampton
  • Access new business opportunities as more households look to switch from gas to low-carbon systems

How to Apply for the Heat Training Grant

To apply, installers must:

  1. Check they meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. Contact an approved training provider such as the Grant UK Training Academy.
  3. Register their details, as funded spaces are limited.

For details, installers can call the Grant UK Training Academy on 01380 736920 or email training@grantuk.com.

A Step Toward a Low-Carbon Future

The Heat Pump Training Grant aims to build a skilled workforce ready to support the UK’s transition to renewable heating. For homeowners, it means better access to trained professionals, while for engineers, it offers the chance to future-proof their skills. For Hampshire and West Sussex, this initiative supports the wider adoption of air source heat pumps and modern central heating systems, helping to create warmer, greener, and more efficient homes.
