Will servicing keep my warranty valid?

Many manufacturers require an annual service by a qualified engineer to keep the warranty in place. Check the terms in your warranty booklet, and keep the report from each service as proof.

How long does an air conditioning service take?

Usually around 45 minutes to an hour for each indoor unit. A system that hasn't been serviced for a while, or a ceiling or ducted unit, can take longer.

Can you service air conditioning that another company installed?

Tell us the make and model when you get in touch, along with how many indoor units you have. We'll let you know whether we can help and what the visit will involve.

What's the difference between a service and a repair?

We run the system and record how it is performing, so we can see what the service changes.

Clean and check

We clean the filters and coils, clear the drain, check the refrigerant circuit and test the electrics and controls.

Test and report

We run the system through a full cycle, talk you through what we found and give you a report of the visit, including anything that needs attention.

How often your air conditioning needs a service

Most manufacturers recommend a service once a year, ideally in spring before the system works hard over the summer. Units used for heating through the winter as well as cooling earn their service even more.

Homes near the coast are worth a closer eye. Salt in the air settles on the outdoor unit and can corrode the fins and coil over time, which cuts efficiency. Between services, rinse the indoor filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and plants.

Servicing, warranties and the law

Many manufacturers make an annual service by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty. Keep the paperwork from each visit, and check your warranty booklet for the exact terms.

Larger systems also have legal checks. Under the F-gas rules, a system holding refrigerant equal to 5 tonnes of CO2 or more must be leak-checked at least once a year. Most single-room home units fall below that, but some larger multi-room systems don't. We can tell you which applies to yours.

What affects the cost of a service

We price a service on your system. The cost depends on:

How many indoor units you have, as each one is cleaned and checked.

The type of unit. Wall-mounted units are quickest. Ceiling cassettes and ducted units take longer.

Access, such as indoor units mounted high up or outdoor units on high wall brackets.

Condition. A system that hasn't been serviced for several years may need a deeper clean of the coils and drain.
