Will you top up refrigerant if the level is low?

The refrigerant is sealed in, so if the level is low, it has leaked. Topping it up without fixing the leak means it will run low again. We'll explain what we've found and tell you the cost of the repair before any work starts.

Do you service all makes and models?

We work with Vaillant, Viessmann, NIBE and Grant heat pumps. If you have a different make, or another company installed your system, tell us the model when you get in touch and we'll let you know whether we can help.

Do I need a service to keep my heat pump warranty?

Usually, yes. Most manufacturers ask for a yearly service, and some set out what it must include. Keep your service reports somewhere safe, as you may need them if you ever make a claim.

How much does a heat pump service cost?

It depends on the make and model, how easy the outdoor unit is to reach and whether there is a hot water cylinder to check too. Tell us about your system and we'll let you know the cost when you book.

An air source heat pump has fewer moving parts than a boiler, but it still needs looking after. Leaves and dirt build up on the outdoor unit, filters clog, system pressure drops and settings drift. None of this stops the heating overnight. It makes the heat pump work harder and cost more to run.

How a heat pump service works

Tell us about your system

Let us know the make and model, when it was installed and when it was last serviced. A photo of the label on the outdoor unit helps the engineer arrive prepared.

Clean, check and test

We clean the outdoor unit and filters, check the electrics, pressure, pumps and valves, and run the system to see how it is performing.

Your service report

You get a written report on what we checked, what we found and anything we recommend. If a repair is needed, we explain it and tell you the cost before any work starts.

What's included in an air source heat pump service

Outdoor unit.
We clear leaves and debris, clean the coil and fan, check the unit has space around it to draw in air, and look for damage, corrosion or oily marks on the pipework that can point to a refrigerant leak.

Water side.
We clean the magnetic filter and strainers, check the system pressure and expansion vessel, and test the pumps and valves.

Electrics and controls.
We check the electrical connections and isolator switch, read the fault history on the controller, and check the flow temperature, weather compensation and hot water settings suit your home.

Performance.
We run the system and record the flow and return temperatures to see whether it is delivering heat as it should.

Where a small adjustment can be made on the day, we make it. Anything bigger goes in your report with a clear explanation and price.

Running costs, refrigerant and your warranty

If your heat pump costs more to run than it used to, the cause is often a setting rather than a broken part. A flow temperature set too high, weather compensation switched off or a system that isn't balanced can all cut efficiency sharply. We check these on every service.

The refrigerant sits in a sealed circuit and should never need topping up. If it's low, it has leaked, and the leak needs finding and fixing first. By law, work on the refrigerant circuit must be done by an F-gas certified engineer.
